Much like Storm Claudia hit the northern region the previous evening, City swept United aside at the Etihad Stadium. It was a statement three-nil triumph for Andrée Jeglertz’s side owing to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a result that firmly established their title credentials as they consolidated their standing at the top of the table.

Consecutive Setbacks for United

This scoreline represented successive league setbacks for Marc Skinner’s side for the maiden instance since May 2024, putting them a significant margin off the table toppers with their title hopes in serious doubt.

The Red Devils' capability to balance domestic and continental soccer with a thin team has been a frequently analyzed issue since they secured entry to the Champions League. Considering the calendar, it always felt like this was the matchday that would fully examine this ability. Regrettably for the visitors, they looked fatigued throughout, the landmark win against the French side clearly having left its mark.

Lineup Adjustments

Skinner had sought to make changes with a a few adjustments. Toone, Terland, Janssen and Leah Galton all provided freshness, although the omission of the high-performing Malard to the substitutes caused surprise.

Dominant First Half
